The P I T T S B U R G H Society of Artists was founded in May 1965. With more than 300 members, whose work represents all visual-arts media. In 2015 PSA marked its 50th year dedicated to providing its members with opportunities to exhibit their art, both in the Pittsburgh area and beyond southwestern Pennsylvania.
In addition to providing exhibition opportunities, the Society since its inception has been dedicated to encouraging creative thinking about the arts through public dialogue. At our general membership meetings, held twice a year, the guild engages speakers to explore some aspect of the arts. The general public has always been invited to these stimulating programs.
Any individual eighteen years old or older who lives within 150 miles of Pittsburgh may apply for membership by submitting three original pieces of art to a screening by the Board of Directors. Screenings are held in the spring and fall of each year.
OPENING on Saturday, July 9

The P I T T S B U R G H Society of Artists is proud to present the Artist’s Choice Exhibition. This show will be non-juried exhibition, giving all of our members an opportunity to submit and exhibit work that may have not been accepted or seen within the last two years. Members will be allowed to choose one (1) of their favorite pieces to be shown in the exhibition. We are thrilled to provide this opportunity and look forward to an outstanding year filled with celebration and art!
Custom Hard Hat Painting • Request for Proposal
The Constructors Association of Western Pennsylvania (CAWP) invites artists in the Greater Pittsburgh region to submit a proposal to https://www.cawp.org/artist-application/ showing your portfolio of work.
Multiple artists will be selected to create unique decorative hard hat art that will be used to help raise funds for the Brandon Chaney CLC Scholarship. Developed in 2008 by the CAWP Constructors Leadership Council (CLC), this scholarship was named in memory of Brandon Chaney, an aspiring third-generation heavy/highway construction professional who died at the age of 16 in an automobile accident. The scholarship is awarded yearly to the top-ranking first-year apprentice in each of the four heavy and highway apprenticeship programs in western Pennsylvania.
If selected, your completed piece will showcase one of the heavy/highway construction trades and help us bring attention to career opportunities for young people looking to enter this field. The hard hat art does not have to be wearable; however, the art should be durable and made with materials that will stand the test of time. Each artist selected will be responsible for providing their medium of choice; however, CAWP will provide one MSA white V-Gard Hard Hat to each artist selected.
Applicants that are chosen will be provided with a specific trade to focus their design towards – for example, carpenters, laborers, or heavy equipment operators. Details will follow upon selection. Each artist selected will be awarded $500 for their completed artwork. Upon payment, final artwork and all copyrights will become the property of CAWP. Artists may use the images of the art for self-promotion only.
