I was recently contacted by e-mail from a Phillip Rice, who said

he was interested in a painting  of mine.  I think I posted it on facebook.   After several back & forth messages he said he wanted to buy it and would send a check for the purchase.  I told another artist  friend ,  about it she said better check his name on google .Phillip Rice <philliprice006@gmail.com>.  All I did was put Phillip Rice Scam artist, and I got so many hits about him. Seems the scam is they send you a check much higher then the painting, after notifying them, they instruct you to deposit the  check and send them the difference, at which point their check bounces. In her case it involved lots of money & she notified the FBI, since I stopped corresponding I had no check to show. but wanted to alert others.

Thank you for this warning. Another scam collector that I had a misfortune to deal with is CHARLES ROONEY. Uses the same process of scamming artists with fake checks.
