The P I T T S B U R G H Society of Artists was founded in May 1965. With more than 200 members, whose work represents all visual-arts media. In 2015 PSA marked its 50th year dedicated to providing its members with opportunities to exhibit their art, both in the Pittsburgh area and beyond southwestern Pennsylvania.

In addition to providing exhibition opportunities, the Society since its inception has been dedicated to encouraging creative thinking about the arts through public dialogue. At our general membership meetings, held twice a year, the guild engages speakers to explore some aspect of the arts. The general public has always been invited to these stimulating programs.

Any individual eighteen years old or older who lives within 150 miles of Pittsburgh may apply for membership by submitting three original pieces of art to a screening by the Board of Directors. Screenings are held in the spring and fall of each year.

This is your year to become a member of the P I T T S B U R G H Society of Artists, one of the largest artist guilds in western Pennsylvania with more than 200 artist members in all media. We offer artists the chance to join with peers in a lifelong pursuit of artistic expression. Since 1965, the P I T T S B U R G H Society of Artists remains dedicated to providing our members with exhibition opportunities and encouraging creative thinking through meetings, workshops, critiques, field trips to museums, artist studios and much more. Become a P I T T S B U R G H Society of Artists member and take advantage of our valuable resources for personal and artisitic growth such as the fellowship of your peers and interesting programs. As a member of the P I T T S B U R G H Society of Artists, all this can be yours. There is no fee for screening. If accepted, annual dues are $40.00.

Jack O’Lantern Extravaganza

The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium will be hosting a brand-new seasonal spectacular in October. Thousands of artistically carved pumpkins will glow in the night during a walk-through Jack O’ Lantern Extravaganza. These gourd-geous works of art will feature beloved Zoo animals and familiar characters from the worlds of entertainment, science, fantasy, pop culture, sports, and more, presented with sound, light, and other special effects. This family friendly event is the perfect combination of nighttime fun, the spirit of autumn, and artistry. The Jack O’ Lantern Extravaganza will open to the public beginning on Thursday, October 3 and run nightly through Sunday, November 3.
Artwork themes for the exhibit include: • Fantasy • The 1920s • Iconic TV • Pittsburgh Sports • Pittsburgh Zoo Animals • Iconic Pop Culture • Pittsburgh Concert Artists • Summer Celebrations • Movies of a Decade • International Countries • Pittsburgh Icons •

The Zoo is looking for skilled artists to draw art on pumpkins for our carving teams, as well as give you the opportunity to learn from our master carvers on how to bring your artwork to life. This is a great opportunity to get your artistic talent in front of over 50,000 people during the month-long exhibit.

These are paid positions that allow for part-time to full-time Zoo employment leading up to the event and for the duration of the exhibit. Below is the link to apply to the Skilled Pumpkin Illustrator job posting.
